Courage is the remarkable quality of possessing the inner strength and bravery to confront and conquer fear, adversity, and challenges. It encompasses the willingness to take risks, stand up for righteousness, and tackle difficult situations with unwavering resilience and determination.

This month, we had the privilege of conversing with several clients and partners who shared their personal definitions of courage. To them, courage means defying the status quo and embracing their authentic selves. It involves breaking free from societal molds to discover their true identities and navigate the world on their own terms.

Exhibiting courage in the workplace can be demonstrated through various actions. It can entail speaking up and expressing one’s ideas, embracing challenging opportunities, taking calculated risks to pursue goals, advocating for what is just and ethical, learning from failures and setbacks, offering support to others, and proactively taking initiative.

Anita Simon shed light on how the principles of LILO coaching can foster self-reflection and external awareness, enabling personal growth and development. By employing these principles, individuals can liberate themselves from fear and self-doubt, ultimately unlocking their full potential.

Jholerina Timbo, a remarkable trans woman, shared her story of advocating for others and standing up for what is right. Growing up in a rural village with limited exposure to fellow trans individuals, she has emerged as a passionate LGBTQIA rights activist. For her, being true to herself was not a choice but an imperative.

We also joyously celebrated the relaunch of Hope and Unity Metropolitan Community  in Soweto on May 27th. Co-led by the inspiring Rev Nokuthula Dhladhla, this church stands as a beacon of acceptance and inclusion. Rev Dhladhla, one of South Africa’s pioneering queer pastors, emphasizes the importance of enabling individuals in the LGBTQIA community to express their faith in a safe and welcoming space.

In conclusion, we aspire for individuals to embrace their fears as opportunities for growth, stepping beyond their comfort zones with confidence, and realizing that genuine strength and transformation lie on the other side of fear.
